This seminar is designed to provide an overview of trauma-informed care for organizations that are committed to the development of a trauma-informed culture and services. Developed to equip Board Members and other volunteer leaders with the tools that they need in order to be an effective trauma-informed governor.

Learners will explore:

  • The business case for creating a trauma-informed organization
  • The fundamentals of trauma-informed care and the unique features of a trauma-informed work environment
  • Trauma-informed values from an operational perspective
  • The critical role of Board Members in trauma-informed stewardship

Fundamentals for Trauma-informed Care I

This seminar is designed as a primer for helping professionals, regardless of their role or responsibilities of direct care. Created to provide fundamental information and hands-on tools to help people work confidently and effectively with individuals who have experienced trauma.

Learners will explore:

  • Creating a trauma-informed culture through shared language and concepts
  • Neurobiology of trauma as natural, life-saving responses
  • The Tri-phasic Model of Trauma Recovery
  • Tools to help individuals stay within their “Window of Tolerance”: adhering to principles of safety and stability

Duration: 1 day; combination of lecture, integrated learning and facilitated process; co-facilitated.

Trauma-informed Governance

This seminar is designed to provide an overview of trauma-informed care for organizations that are committed to the development of a trauma-informed culture and services. Developed to equip Board Members and other volunteer leaders with the tools that they need in order to be an effective trauma-informed governor.

Fundamentals for Trauma-informed Care II

This seminar is designed for helping professionals in both front-line and supervisory positions who have exposure to the real psychological, emotional and physical challenges of community-based work. Created to provide information and the guidance people need to work confidently and effectively within the scope of trauma-informed values. Participants will learn additional tools that can be utilized both personally and professionally as themes related to compassion fatigue and the “cost of caring” are considered.

Learners will explore:

  • Case studies to integrate trauma-informed concepts
  • Additional tools to assist with up and down regulation
  • The impact of working with individuals who have experienced trauma and the possible affects on front-line staff (compassion fatigue, burnout and vicarious trauma)
  • Ideas and strategies that support the well-being of helping professionals

Duration: 1 day; combination of lecture, integrated learning and facilitated process; co-facilitated.

*This seminar can be adapted for Managers and Supervisors with a focus on developing trauma-informed supervision.
