Yoga & Equine Assisted Learning

Yoga with an Equine Twist

Are you ready for a truly magical experience that combines the embodied practice of yoga with the mindful experience of being around horses? Join us at Blue Gaboo Stables, near Sutton, for this unique series of three Saturday morning classes that feature one hour of gentle hatha yoga or iYoga, followed by one hour of equine experiential learning.

Your country experience begins on your yoga mat. The classes are held on the lawns beneath majestic trees, surrounded by the fall beauty of the forest. (You can select a series that features Hatha yoga or, for those who would prefer a gentle movement practice, iYoga).

We will then move over to the barn to spend time with the horses – absorbing what equines can teach humans about living in the moment. No experience with horses? Not to worry, the equine portion doesn’t involve riding the horses, your boots will stay firmly on the ground.

Time permitting, participants will enjoy a guided walk through the private Blue Gaboo forest.

Your fall farm destination experience awaits! We look forward to seeing you soon...at Blue Gaboo Stables!

Registration:

To offer participants peace of mind during these times of social distancing we are limiting class size to eight people. As a result, we are accepting registration for the full three-session series and cannot accommodate single class registrations.

Cost and Payment:

$240 (+ HST) = $271.20 per person for series of three classes. 50% deposit required with registration. Full payment required prior to the first class. Please e-transfer payment to BlueGabooStables@outlook.com. We will confirm your spot as soon as payment is received.

In the true nature of being Canadian, we will take whatever Mother Nature presents us with. If it’s chilly we’ll warm up around the bonfire. Sessions will only be rescheduled in the event of driving rain, lightning, or ridiculously cold temperatures!

Cancellation Policy:

Life happens and sometimes plans change. However, given the small class size, our cancellation policy is fairly strict. If you cancel your series within one week of the start date, we will do our best to find a replacement. If the spot remains empty, your fees will be forfeited. Refunds will not be offered for cancellations for single classes within the series.

Notes:

Due to COVID-19, please bring your mask for use for the rare situation where social distancing is not possible. Hand sanitizing stations are provided. Washroom facilities are not provided onsite.

Also due to COVID-19, the classes are restricted to participants only. If you are being driven to the stable, the town of Sutton is just five minutes away and hosts some great restaurants and quaint shops.

This series is a true out of doors experience, so dress/bring weather-appropriate clothing. Closed toe shoes are required while working around the horses. Water and snacks are welcome. Our canine friends need fresh air and exercise too, but introducing dogs to horses can be a dramatic experience. As such, dogs are not permitted.

What to Expect:

Week 1

Yoga from 10 am – 11 am

Orientation. Welcome to Blue Gaboo Stables! This week’s focus will be on a mindful practice that uses our senses to bring awareness to our magnificent surroundings. Sight, sound, smell, touch – we’ll orient to the farm before we spend time with our four-legged friends. The shapes and movement of this practice will be welcoming for all levels of experience.

Equine from 11 am – 12 pm

Observing herd behavior. Horses can provide a window into your personality through their intuitive nature and innate sensitivity. We will learn more about ourselves by watching how horses interact with one another…and how they respond to us. This session focuses on breathing, being authentic and living in the moment.

Week 2

Yoga from 10 am – 11 am

Intention. What is your intention through practice? This week’s focus will be on noticing the sensations of our body as we move through a mindful practice. Each shape a jewel, each movement done with intention – together, we’ll exercise curiosity while exploring the embodied experience of a gentle hatha practice. The shapes and movement of this practice will be welcoming for all levels of experience.

Equine from 11 am – 12 pm

Meet your equine partner. Participants will be introduced to their equine partners, learning how relationships are built by establishing trust and comfort. You will learn about safety and how to groom the horses. You will also learn to lead your horse through an obstacle course.

Week 3

Yoga from 10 am – 11 am

Expression. Express yourself! This week’s focus will be on noticing both the external and internal sensations and experiences of shapes and movement. Big, little, fast, slow, still...and flow. The choices will seem endless as we move from standing, to seated, to lying on our mats. The shapes and movement of this practice will be welcoming for all levels of experience.

Equine from 11 am – 12 pm

Communication exercise. You will participate in two exercises that demonstrate the power of communication through body language, and understanding the value of respect through trust and active listening.

Schedule:

Your class will be held alternating Saturdays from 10 am – 12 pm

iYoga Class: October 10, 24, November 7

*iYoga is an embodied movement practice that offers participants the experience of an authentic yoga practice through invitational language, a focus on interoception, body safety, and choice and control. The practice is based on Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga™ and is facilitated by a Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator.

Hatha Yoga Class: October 17, 31, November 14

Hatha Yoga will focus on opportunities to create shapes and movement with the body with a slightly different focus each week. All levels of practice and expression are welcome. These classes will be facilitated by an RYT-500 in good standing with Yoga Alliance.
